There are 3 different types of courses that can be built on Gateway Academy: Self-led, facilitated, and collaborative workshop. Below are some their characteristics.

In addition, courses on Gateway Academy can be asset-based or points-based.
Points-based design can be used for low- to no- facilitation courses. In those the activities can have a different weight.
In learning assets-based courses activities learners complete have the same weight.
For example:
In points based courses learners earn points when starting or contributing to a discussion, while in asset based courses discussion forums are either optional or required.
Contributions in optional discussion forums don't count towards the overall course progress. If participation in the discussion forum is essential for course completion, during the course creation, they are marked as required. Contributions in such forums count towards the overall progress, only once a facilitator has reviewed and approved them.
